5 things Freelancers can learn from Will Smith

5 things Freelancers can learn from Will Smith

Now is the time of year that things get more and more stressful – even though it’s supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Finding motivation in areas you normally don’t find it can give you that extra spark of encouragement that you’re after in order to keep pushing forward and find that renewed sense of power to accomplish things you never even dreamed possible.

One of the best places for motivation that I have found recently is in these five videos of Will Smith. He’s truly inspired me to keep pushing forward and to think outside of the box and I hope by watching these videos, you can as well.

1. We are who we choose to be

2. You want something. Go Get It. Period.

3. Two Keys to Life: Running & Reading

4. The belief in a possibility is our power

5. Your talent will fail you if you are not skilled

What do you think?

Inspired at all from these above videos? I know I was – and I hope they’re helping you out as well as we turn the page from 2009 to 2010. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. And thank you for reading – I appreciate it.

What a crock. A total waste, just like self-help books. If everyone was great, but definition, no one would be.

One’s own passions and beliefs in themselves aren’t enough to succeed. Just look at schizophrenics, they utterly believe in themselves. So do the homeless. Pretty much most people do, and they aren’t a complete success or great by any stretch of the imagination.

As much as it hurts, there is a world out there… a world that is out of your control, and that poses very real barriers, some that can simply not be overcome by one’s “greatness” or will alone. There is just some level of luck involved, as sad as some find that to hear.

Living up to one’s capacity is something that is in all of us, very much so, but not everyone’s capacities are equal. If you are won over by Will Smith, then you seriously lack critical thinking skills. Or just need to reassure yourself you will be great one day… and that, sadly, may or may not come… through no fault of your own.

Better to not worry about it and just enjoy the time you have on this planet.

    • Sounds to me like you didn’t watch all the videos, and if you did you missed the point he was putting across.

Either that or you just don’t like Will Smith!

Hey, don’t make excuses for your lack of success. Just because you are doing nothing with your life, don’t tell people that they don’t have what it takes. While your making excuses, someone is making a difference. I think your selling yourself short my man. Take it easy, and I hope you accomplish everything your willing to work for.

I’m sorry but Will is definetely right! What if Henri Coanda gave up on his dream of flying? We wouldn’t have any planes today. There is greatness in all of us, and Will is ready to die for it and damn right he ain’t talking shit!If you wanna be a loser be a loser!Don’t tell other people they can’t accomplish their dreams just because you’re to weak to fight for them. And please don’t take this message as an insult…with all the respect!

  3. WSZ, you depress me.

    Mike, great post.

The whole “believe in yourself” crap is corny and cliche as hell but that’s because it’s true. Most people give up too fast, get scared, run away and generally do nothing. When people say it’s hard to really do what you love/succeed/etc they actually mean it’s hard.

  4. Brilliant post! Very inspiring, very right.

    Thanks for posting

I thought Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right”. Not Confucius.

The treadmill part was good tho… And the brick laying part to form a wall.

respect! great man, great advices! thank you for these videos Mike!

  7. Shini says:

Quite interesting how you sorta weaved in Will Smith to make your point, and love it, he’s like a living legend, now isn’t he. So agree with how talent is put to waste if your skill isn’t tested and improved all the time.

  8. Great set of videos. People just hear the “just believe” or “Just Do It” and think magic just happens. It does, but only with that pesky working part he keeps mentioning in there, too.

Anything is possible, but you generally have to work your ass off to make it happen.

  9. zalex says:

i can’t thing of anything else more dramatic and inspiring this days that the words coming out of this man’s mouth. i trully thank you for this videos… i learned a lot from them.

  10. Issa says:

I like item No. 2 – You want something. Go Get It. Period. I believe that one must not simply want, but one must ‘desire’ to make it in the cutthroat world of freelancing. Thanks for the sharing!

  11. Doxa says:

    Superb selections.
Look also for Anthony Robbins stuff – he is sharing pretty much the same ideas
