8 reasons why I run this blog and love every minute of it
I don’t run this blog because I have to, I run it because I love it. I love interacting with you, I love writing down ideas and having someone tell me that it helped spark something inside of them and I love being able to write on a regular basis. It’s a freeing feeling to write for this blog and I appreciate all of the readers here (especially you) so today I thought I’d go over a few reasons why I love running this blog and share some personal insight to myself along the way.
Here are eight reasons why I run this blog and love every minute of it – in no particular order.
#1. Because I give a shit about you
The main reason I write this blog is to help other freelancers with practical advice that other blogs don’t cover. I know that if I had a resource like this when I started out, I’d be in a much better position today than I am, so I hope that by giving a shit about the readers here, the writing comes through as open, honest and valuable.
#2. I love to write
Ironically in high school I hated writing, but now I love to write. Part of it might be because of my anxiety and fear of having conversations over the phone or in person with people, but when I write, I feel free. I can easily write 5,000 words in a day (at this present moment, I’ve written 3,000 and have a few thousand more to go).
#3. As a child, I was never looked at as a resource of knowledge
Being able to share advice to you and have you write me to say thank you for posting up information on a certain topic, or for releasing the guide to starting a profitable freelance design business means the world to me. As a child, I was always the kid who was never listened to and never felt like I had a lot of self worth, so by writing a blog like this and knowing that it’s making an impact on you, it makes me feel great.
#4. I designed it and showcase my design skill
When I first started my blog design business, I knew that I had to have some blogs in the portfolio so instead of taking the time to enter design contests (say no to spec work) or just designing “sample” sites, I took some time and made a blog that would not only fit well in my portfolio but would allow me to promote my design business. A win/win situation for me.
#5. It helps me remember tips and resources down the road
Another reason I love this blog so much is because I am constantly looking back through it for advice and tips that I know I wrote down but cannot seem to remember. It’s allowed me to make my resource bin public and help others but it’s also been a great way for me to sort through my thoughts and keep up with everything I learn along the way.
#6.When you succeed, I succeed
I feel accomplished when I know that someone who reads this blog decided to start a freelance business and was able to because of the tips and resources I’ve posted. It makes me feel great to know that I’ve helped someone else succeed in building their dream business and starting a life that they never thought would be possible.
#7. It’s on its way to be my main source of income
One of the big goals I’ve set for myself with this blog is to make it a main source of income so I can scale back my blog design business and focus full time on blogging. It’s a lofty goal but with a couple of tests I’ve already done this year and some new ideas iin the works, it’s definitely going to happen.
#8. Because I’m fucking good at it
Allow me to toot my own horn for a minute, because after 100+ posts have gone live and hundreds of thousands of visitors have graced the pages here, I’d say that I’ve done a pretty good job of writing blog content that is not only valuable and insightful but it pulls readers in and attracts visitors from all over the web through social media and sharing websites, google search, etc. I’ve written hundreds of articles for other blogs and have hit front pages of digg, stumbleupon, delicious, reddit, etc because I am good at writing content for blogs.
An additional note about this blog
The 18th of March was our three year anniversary of being live and I completely missed it. You can wish the blog a happy birthday in the comments or completely forget about it like I did, but just know that by the time we turn four years old, things are going to be very, very different around here. Big things are planned for this year and I want you to be a part of it!
