Some are willing to even pay for it as we see in this case. I think anybody can utilize this strategy by offering something special to most loyal users. It could be an offer for your latest template, access to buy it before others or something to that extend. In the beginning membership could be totally free and later you could offer users more perks if they sign up for some "pro" membership. As long as you still provide value to folks that stay with free membership it should be alright. Good post, made me think =) Interesting post Mike
