How to increase your cold email response rates by 50%
Imagine spending 4 hours sending cold emails to prospective clients and receiving a response to 8 out of 10 emails. Now, imagine spending 4 hours sending cold emails and only receiving a response to 4 out of 10 emails. Which scenario would make you happier? Obviously the 8 out of 10 responses, right? Well, in most cases, people sending out cold emails don’t receive those kinds of numbers and there’s a very simple reason why.
Hello, Hi, To Whom It May Concern
How many of you receive emails like this from people? How many times have you actually sent emails to someone with just “Hi, Hey or Hello” as the introduction line? There’s a few things that this portrays to the reader instantly. It shows them that you don’t know who they are, which makes them immediately feel less important. It also shows that you more than likely are just randomly sending emails out and don’t care much about them, all you’re in it for is the business.
Find their About Page
If you’re sending cold emails, you can get a higher response rate by simply finding the persons name and introducing yourself to them personally. A “Hello Mike” goes a long way compared to a “Hi”. I’ve received 4 emails today from SEO companies and people wanting to advertise on this site (or have me write about their “super cool service”) and not one of them had my name in it, even though the end of every article here tells you who writes it and the About page also tells you who I am.
Talk them up a bit
If you’re writing a business owner or a blog owner, find something they’ve done recently that you like and could talk up and mention it in the email. For instance, “congrats on the wedding” or “I really dug the _______ article you wrote”. It breaks the ice, lets them know you are paying attention and doesn’t come across as just random spam.
Test it out
So if you’re sending out cold emails today (or any day), take a few minutes and test it out. See how many more responses you get if when you take a few minutes to learn more about the website owner and put their name in it and talk about them like you know them. You’ll be surprised at the results.
