Are you building a business based around something you love or something you have been told will make you money? If your answer is the latter, how is that going for you? Are you happy? Are you able to work 12-16 hours without feeling overwhelmed and drained? If you’re not able to honestly say you are happy with your current job and you know that there is something you’d much rather be doing, would you believe me when I tell you that you can make money from that very thing you’re wanting to do? Because thats exactly what I’ll be doing in this article – showing you how to turn your passion into profits!
Below you will find a loosly guided outline on what you need to do in order to turn your passion into profits. Your steps may be a bit different depending on what it is that you love to do, but the overall process will be the same – state what it is you love, define the money making opportunities within that field, and (as Gary Vaynerchuk will tell you) CRUSH IT!
This is the first question you need to ask yourself. Can you play sports for hours a day without even thinking about food, rest or water? Could you write about politics without getting up from your seat for 6-7 hours at a time? Would you be able to draw sketches for the entire day without looking up from your notepad once?
No matter what it is that you love, you need to find what it is, because without a true love for what it is you will be building your business off of, you will, without a doubt, hit roadblocks and find times where you are discouraged. You’ll want to quit – and just might – if you do not truly love what it is you’re going to be doing.
Now that you’ve figured out what you truly love to do more than anything, the fun part begins; how do you make money from it? Is it possible to make money by directly doing it (ie: sketching and drawing illustrations) or would you have to form a business venture based on it (ie: if you love playing sports, you could start a sports website). I’d recommend sitting down with pen and paper and pounding out as many business oriented ideas as possible. Do not worry about neatness, or order of biggest to smallest – just get them out on paper until your brain hurts. You’ll notice that once you hit a flow, you’ll start to see ideas on the paper you never even thought of before.
Now take that list after you have exhausted your brain and find the one or two that interest you the most. Remember, you NEED to be interested in what you’re doing, so make sure it’s definitely something you could see yourself doing (or are already doing) for 12-16 hours a day. Once you’ve got them together, you’re ready for the next step.
At this point, you’ve figured out what it is that you love and you’ve got your one or two business ideas on how you can make money by doing what it is you love – so now, you’ve got to start doing it! If you’ve got the opportunity to already be working from home, make sure you’re devoting as much time as possible to the passion you’ve got. If you’re working a 9-5, come home from that job and get to work. Hard work and hustle is what will pay off in the end. You might hear success stories of people who sit around and work 1-2 hours a day while making $1,000+ per day – odds are they are full of shit. You’ve got to get off your ass and make things happen. Success isn’t going to just fall into your lap.
If you’re truly comfortable spending time doing things you hate, then disregard this article entirely. But if you’ve got a passion burning inside of you, one that you know you need to focus more time and energy on, you need to get up, get out and get it! You’ve got the ideas on how to make money from your passion, so get out there and make things happen – you’re going to enjoy ever minute of it.
Great article! I’ve always believed in doing something that you love. When you do… the quality of work you produce comes out better. Thanks again for the great post!
Brilliant article! It all comes down to passion. Passion gives you the drive, it gives you focus, it makes you forget your surroundings and it reminds you who you really are.
When you finish a project and it’s 3:30 in the morning, you’re exhausted and then you look at it again: you smile, you’re proud and you feel ALIVE!
Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
I regularly tell people how blessed I am to be doing what I love! Nevermind being able to work from home and set my own schedule and pay scale, I love being able to get paid to write! It’s not like a ‘real’ job when you are having fun working. A 12-16 hour workday 6 or 7 days a week does not really bother someone who is enjoying what they are doing, who is born to do it. Even the little achievements are huge, because it’s my business, my name on the sign. This is the most exciting thing I’ve ever done. I saw my old boss just a little while ago and he asked me am I making millions “doing my writing thing” yet. I told him with a smile I am on my way. My success lies largely in how happy I am doing my job. If I don’t get rich I don’t care. I do, of course, want to make an income to support my family, and the idea of being able to pursue my passion and get paid for it still leaves me awestruck.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I truly appreciate them. I am glad to see there are others out there following their passions and making money from it.
