Sunday Showcase: Invoice Machine
The Sunday Showcase is back again with another feature, this time the invoice app, Invoice Machine. If you’re freelancing and are not sending out invoices yet to your clients, you need to check out Invoice Machine. I’ve personally been using Invoice Machine for over a year now to handle all of my business invoices & I love it.
When everyone else was flocking to Freshbooks because it was what all the cool kids were using, I chose something a bit more economically right for me and my business. With it’s free option that allows you to send 3 invoices per month & it’s super clean and stylish invoices, I knew it was exactly what I needed.
The pros
- Clean Invoices – The style of the invoice that’s sent out is clean and easy to print but it’s also stylish, which makes your company look better every time a client opens up the email with the invoice in it.
- Free & Paid Options – For the freelancer who only handles a couple projects a month, Invoice Machine has a free option for you. Then you can upgrade to a larger package for as little as $12 per month which is well worth it.
- Robust API – While it doesn’t look like many developers have taken advantage of the API to build apps (currently there is a Mac OS X Timer Widget), the API looks really good and could give developers the option to build out various apps with ease. And since a lot of us are developers & the Invoice Machine market for extras is quite low, it could be a good opportunity for a developer to build an app or two off the API and get some added exposure + help out the Invoice Machine community.
The cons
- Slight downtime – Since I’ve been using Invoice Machine there have been 2-3 times where I went to send an invoice out to a client and the site was down. While 2-3 times out of 12+ months isn’t that bad, I would like to personally see it never go down so my business isn’t slowed up by it (the outages were only for at most an hour or two).
- No Blackberry App – While most people have iPhones, some of us use Blackberry phones and it seems that Invoice Machine isn’t alone in company when it comes to sites who totally forget to make a blackberry app. While it’s not a deal breaker at all, it’s still something I’d personally like to see.
Overall Quality
For the price tag (free for the small option and $12+ per month for paid options), Invoice Machine gets the official Guerrilla Freelancing Seal of Approval (GFSoA). Whenever I recommend an invoice app on Twitter or Facebook to another freelancer, I always make sure that Invoice Machine is the option I give them because I use it and I personally love it.
